Experience in hospital:
I have two victims. My husband and my disabled son. They were both admitted into two different hospitals. I could not see my husband at all, isolated, I do not know what he said yes to or nodding his head to things. My son was not given food, water, or iv fluid for 48 hours. They said he aspirated when he was being fed and they were talking to doctors to see what to do for him and when I asked about water or iv fluids, they said it was good for him to dry out!! My daily update calls from my husbands hospital were informative on what they were doing or giving him and most I didn't understand and when I said 'no' or asked for something different, they said no.
October 17, 2021 my son, Andrew, was very weak in the bathroom and couldn’t “do it anymore” – his words. He had muscular dystrophy and was tired and weak. Called 911, they took and admitted him to Lutheran medical hospital. When I got him settled at the hospital, I went home to check on my husband who was also sick. He was sleeping too much and his pulse ox was plummeting.
I needed oxygen and I took him to Saint Anthony Hospital (he was recently in this hospital with an infected bone in his finger). As he was sitting in the emergency room, an attendant saw him sleeping and took his pulse ox and said it wasn’t conducive to life. He was admitted. Oct. 18th, my husband update by phone said his oxygen was good, but dips when he moves around and told to sleep on his stomach. October 19th, phone update, Sam was sitting in chair and said he was bored.
But in that update I heard word Remdesivir. I looked it up: renal failure, multi-organ failure, people with diabetes has problem with this and my husband was type 1.
Oct. 20, phone update, I asked them to stop remdesivir and they said “tomorrow is his last day”. I also asked them to give him vitamin C and D and they said, “we’ll see” – vitamin C causes kidney problems, I said, so does Remdesivir. They talked of vent, I said “no”, but by 23 they put him on. Andrew died 10-24-2021 when a central line was put in and he had a massive heart attack, Sam passed on Nov. 5, 2021 after being on vent for 14 days. I have six pages of notes on their daily care.
