The Interview with Kenya Alu
Joseph Ayoub Story
Kenya’s, father, Joseph Ayoub, a healthy 69 year old lost his life due to inadequate care, isolation, and
lack of nutrition. He was bullied by hospital staff increasing his anxiety then given sedatives that he had
adverse reactions to. No family member was granted room entry to advocate for him, therefore, they
would gather in the hospital waiting room and facetime with Joseph.
At one point in time, he was yelling for someone to come help him! The family began to rush to his
side, when security guards abruptly stopped them! Joseph was abused mentally and physically!
Joseph’s first symptoms began on November 21, 2021. He went to one campus of The Hospitals of
Providence in El Paso, Texas on December 12, 2021, but was sent home because he refused Remdesivir.
On December 14, 2021, he went to Urgent Care at another campus of the same hospital system and was
directly admitted. Joseph thought he would be getting the monoclonal antibodies, but was told no
because they only administered this to outpatients. He was put on a 500 calorie diet per day and
constantly berated about signing a DNR. Joseph was a DNI, but not a DNR.
Joseph succumbed to the pressure and sedatives. He was intubated December 18, 2021. The family
was finally granted visitation privileges. Not only did they notice the uncleanliness of the room, but observed
that Joseph’s foot lacked circulation and was cold. They requested a vascular consult which did not
happen until 18 hours later. This would lead to an amputation on January 1, 2022.
Joseph passed on January 23, 2022 due to: Post Inflammatory Pulmonary Fibrosis, Acute Respiratory
Distress Syndrome, COVID 19 Pneumonitis, and COVID 19 Infection.
However the family believes neglect played a much larger role in his death.
Kenya spoke at the Texas HHS hearings on June 27, 2022 for the allotted two minute timeframe about
isolation. She will continue to fight for her father!
