COVID-19 Humanity Betrayal ㅤ Memory Project

John was admitted to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on 11/30/21 in Lexington, NC. When he arrived at the ER they treated him with Remdesivir without consent nor did they discuss the side effects. He was transferred to the main campus in Winston-Salem, NC where they continued to treat him with Remdesivir. They also treated him with the monoclonal antibodies and coerced him into participating in a study called TXA-127. The doctor told him it could help with treating Covid and he would receive $150 for participating. Within three days, he was admitted to ICU.

From the time he was admitted, he was isolated for 21 days. John continued to get worse. He was vented on 12/11/21 and almost died. The hospital called me to let me know that his heart rate dropped really low and his BP bottomed out. His oxygen saturation was at a 65 for an hour. I asked the doctor, “is my husband dying?” She replied, “it’s a possibility.” I was devastated!

On or about 12/21/21, John’s family and I sat across from a team of doctors at a conference room table. His pulmonologist told us his kidneys were shutting down and he was dying. She asked what was his personality like and what did he do for a living. After the meeting, they allowed us to stand outside his room, a nurse took my cellphone into the room and laid it beside his head so that we could talk to him. It was very traumatic seeing him on life support.

The next day I got a phone call from a nurse letting me know we could come see John. We talked to him, held his hand, rubbed his head, etc., we told him to fight. I went to see him everyday. It was a long two weeks of getting phone calls about his prognosis, getting permission to do pic lines, and other forms of treatment including a tracheotomy. The first day we got to see John on 12/22/21, his pulmonologist “encouraged” me to sign a DNR stating that if they did CPR, it would crush his ribs and his heart would most likely stop. After talking to my sister-in-law, I told the doctors to use every life saving measure available!

John had told me the day he was vented to not let them kill him because he wanted to live.  John was put on continuous dialysis, palliative care was called in and they tried to convince me he had brain damage. During those two long weeks, it was a roller coaster ride. One day he would be doing great and the next day not so good. During those two weeks while vented, John went from continuous dialysis to regular dialysis.

Toward the latter part of December 2021, the doctors slowly tried to bring him off of all of the sedation medication. They told me he wasn’t responding to pinches or other stimulation like he should be  and most likely he had brain damage. On 12/30/21, the very same day he was scheduled for an MRI, he woke up! The hospital didn’t even bother to call and tell me he was awake. I walked into his room and I asked the nurse why wasn’t the MRI done yet? She turns and looks at me an told me he was awake. I walked up to his bed, his eyes were open, he smiled and his face lit up like a Christmas tree. They did have him restrained supposedly because they didn’t want him to pull his trache out.

After he woke up, I realized they had stopped doing dialysis. I asked the nurse why was he not having regular dialysis? She said his kidneys had repaired themselves! Another miracle! Within a few days he was transferred from ICU to MICU. On 1/11/22, he was transferred to a long term acute care hospital called Kindred Care in Greensboro  NC so that they could get him off the vent and do physical therapy. Kindred was horrible! They were mean to him and kept him chemically restrained.

In February of 2022, he was transferred to Novant Health Rehabilitation Hospital where he learned to walk again. He was released on 3-3-22 after spending 96 days in the hospital. Two TV stations showed up to do a story on him because he was a miracle! He only has 30% lung function and is on disability. He had seven surgeries after being released; a vocal cord implant, his lower lumbar area and his elbow.

I had people all across the U.S. praying for a miracle. God showed up and showed out! I do have something similar to survivors guilt. Sometimes I am a little reluctant to post on C19 Widows/Widowers for Justice because he did survive.
