The day she was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital I had no idea that the people we all trust to look after the sick and injured would murder my daughter and I would never see her alive again. My daughter was not given the cares that she required. They didn't turn her at all. They shut off her feeding tube. They put her on a schedule for suctioning. They did it every 4 hours. At home she could be suctioned 20 times in an hour. Or maybe not at all. She has never been on a schedule for suctioning. St. Mary's decided that. I told them no that they can't do that, but again they didn't listen to me. She was ignored, and sedated the whole 20 days.

Allison Lakoskey Story
Written by Jill Thompson Dawn Ceglar Caregiver of 20 years(Mother)

Allisons’ Story

How the Covid protocol took her life.

My daughter Allison was born with Muscular Dystrophy. She has required 24/7 at-home nursing care since the age of ten. She has been to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and spent nine months in the Gillette Children’s Hospital in the Cities. Even though she had limitations.

She loved her life. Allison enjoyed music, shopping, watching movies, her horse Bailey, being with people, family, and her cozy cottage. That is what she called her home. Above all, my daughter loved God!! Allison had a gastrostomy tube. (Also called a G-tube.) A ventilator was used twelve hours a day to give her respiratory system a break. Allison also had a tracheotomy. (Also called a trach.) Which required oral, and trach suctioning multiple times in a twenty-four-hour period.

My daughter has had someone by her side all through her 43 years of life. Her special needs required that. Allison was never left alone because of her condition. On August 7th, 2022 she tested positive for COVID.

On August 10th, 2022 she was unable to sustain her Oxygen saturation with the equipment that she had at home. So, 911 was called, and she was then transported to Essentia Health in Virginia Minnesota. With me and Dawn right behind her. The care she received in the ER was great. They allowed not only me, but three of her caregivers to participate in her care. Such as trach and oral suctioning. They were also very willing to learn from her caregivers. Which between the three of them totaled 60 years of experience with my daughter. Later that afternoon she was then transported by ambulance to Essentia Health- St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth Minnesota. I was told I could not ride with her in the ambulance.

She had to travel the 64.2 miles without me or one of her caregivers by her side. I sent a note and called St. Mary’s to inform them that under no circumstances should she receive the medication Remdesivir.  I also told them to make sure that they put that in her chart. Immediately upon her arrival at St. Mary’s, we were told that she was not allowed any visitors according to hospital policy. They stated that their policy was twenty days of no visitors. The CDC policy stated that it was only five days at that time.

They told me that only zoom visits were allowed. I zoom called her that evening and asked if they were treating her well. She responded with a scowl and mouthed the word no. At this time Allison had no form of communicating her needs, being that they changed the trach that she had to a cuffed one. She could not speak at all. She was not allowed to have me (her mother, and her legal guardian) or her caregivers there to assist with translating for her.

On August 11th, 2022 when I zoom called her. She was unresponsive. I asked the nurse that was with her what was the matter with my daughter. Her response was; We had to sedate Allison with Ativan and Fentanyl drip. When asked why I was told that she was fighting the ventilator.

This was very confusing to me, as my daughter has been on a ventilator for those twelve hours a day for most of her life with no problems whatsoever. That decision to give her those sedatives was never disgusted or even told to me till after the fact. I would call St. Mary’s a few times a day to check on my daughter.

I was very concerned and scared about what they were giving her. On August 13th, 2022 I was told that I was not allowed to call and check up on my daughter anymore. I was told that I would be updated once a day at 11 am from some Doctor. (Not her Doctor, someone who knew nothing about my daughter’s care) the nurse that was on duty at that time, and the clergyman.

I tried to tell them that wasn’t right, but again they made the decision. Not me. I received the calls daily at 11 am. They said what they had to say and that was it. My heart was broken because I could not talk or be with my daughter at this critical time. I begged, and I pleaded for them to just let me come see her. There was no compassion from them at all. I was told no. That I had to follow hospital protocol.

On the morning of August 18th, 2022, I received a call from St. Mary’s earlier than 11 am. My heart sank. I was terrified to answer my phone. When I did it was the Doctor (remember a guy that knew nothing about my daughter) telling me that I should come to the hospital right away,  to spend time with her and love up on her because she was turning grey, and there was no more they could do for her.

I called Dawn immediately, and we were on our way to St. Mary’s. Once there my daughter remained heavily sedated. She was on the ventilator also. I was holding her hand and talking to her when I noticed that her feeding tube was not hooked up. Now, this is the way she gets her nutrition, and all the other stuff that is good for her. With that being unplugged from her G-tube she would starve to death.

When I asked the nurse(that was caring for my daughter that day )why it was not hooked up to her, I was told that it had been disconnected the day before because this Doctor stated that Allison could not tolerate the feeding. I told her to hook it back up now, and that her feeding was never to be shut off again. She did hook it back up. She then looked at me and said, the feeding will only run if the Doctor believes that she can tolerate it.

At that point I looked at Dawn and said, we have to get her out of her NOW. We tried and tried but that never happened. I also called other hospitals to see about having her transferred somewhere else. I could not make it happen. Everything I tried was shot down. It was like they owned her. I knew then that they were killing my child.

Dawn and I continued asking different questions that day. I asked them to give her Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine from day one. Immediately I was told NO that they are not safe. I asked the respiratory guy what he was giving her. He looked at me and said I don’t want to argue with you. That was the only answer I got from him.

Dawn and I continued talking to my daughter. All Her eyes started to flutter. She was waking up out of this sedated state they had her in. She was responding to Dawn and me by squeezing our hands or raising her eyebrows.

When she raised them once it was yes. Twice was for no. I told the nurse when she returned to the room that my daughter was waking up because she heard me and knew her Mom was there. I was so excited. The nurse left the room, and within one minute she returned with two security guards. The nurse practitioner also came in and told Dawn and me that we had to leave. I asked why we had to leave, and she said it was because we asked too many questions about the care that they were giving to my daughter Allison.

I could not believe what was happening. The two security guards escorted us not only out of the hospital but down the ramp to the street. I was sick to my stomach. I did not want to leave my sweet girl there. The next day the call came at 11 am, and I was told that Dawn and I would have to sign behavioral contracts before we could see my daughter again. I could not believe this was happening. I did not get to see my daughter again until August 27th, 2022. That was nine days of pure hell. I could not sleep, eat, or even barely get out of bed. I was so worried about what they were doing to my child. Those were the worst nine days of my life.

The so-called Doctor called me again earlier than 11 am to tell me that I should come to the hospital, and come now. He said she was dying. Dawn and I raced the 64.2 miles to Duluth. When we got there we had to listen to this speech about behaving ourselves or we would never be allowed to come back. All I wanted to do was sign this stupid piece of paper, and go be with my daughter. We finally got into her room.

She was so out of it. Worse than the last time I saw her. Her face was all puffy. Her eyes did not look right at all. They were so swollen and funny colored. She was so heavily sedated that her tongue was hanging out of her mouth. I could not believe this was my child. This is when the nurse told me that they had her on scheduled suctioning, and would not be repositioning her anymore because the Doctor said she couldn’t tolerate it. I told her that is not how it works.  There would be times she needed to be suctioned 20 times in an hour. She just turned and left the room. Dawn and I moved Allison around some. We rubbed her feet, legs, and whole body.

Again, I begged and pleaded for them to please, please let me stay and be with her. That nurse looked me straight in the eye and said, Jill, you need to follow hospital protocol or you won’t be able to come back.  All I could do was pray, and ask God to please help me get her out of there. I lay with her and just held her tightly. Telling her over, and over again how much I loved her. I knew at that time, my sweet girl was not coming back to her cozy cottage. We stayed as long as they would allow us to stay.

When we were told we had to leave. I had this feeling of hurt, and guilt so bad it was hard to breathe with all the out-of-control crying I was experiencing. All I could keep saying was God please be with my sweet girl. This was pure torture for me and my child. I did not want to leave, but of course, I was made to leave.

The last call came on the morning of August 29th, 2022. I was running late that morning waiting on my son. I called the hospital and told them I was coming and asked how my daughter was. The nurse I talked to said she was resting. About half an hour later as we were getting in the car to leave. I got a call from the hospital saying come and come now. I made it there in time to hold my daughter and let her die in my arms.

Allison’s Dad, brother, nephew, aunts, cousins, caregivers, and a few friends were there also. They all got to say goodbye to the best girl in the whole world (that’s what her Grandpa use to call her.) I was able to spend two days (not full days) with my unconscious daughter before she passed away.

I feel Essentia Health- St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth Minnesota was very negligent in the way they cared for my daughter Allison. I was never asked for my opinion on anything! They made all the decisions without consulting me first. They had my daughter heavily sedated from the start. They would only suction her every four hours. They stopped repositioning her from side to side. They shut her feeding off. They took away her only form of communication by alienating her from her family and caregivers. This was tormenting for me to watch, and what happened to Allison has happened to many, many people due to COVID HOSPITAL PROTOCOL.

This has to stop, and stop now!!! My daughter’s story will go on. Thank you for taking the time to read Allies Story. Had my daughter passed away on her own when the time was right, I would be able to accept it. But knowing people deliberately murdered her. I WILL NEVER ACCEPT IT!!!!!

This is one of many stories we have documented for our COVID-19 Humanity Betrayal Memory Project, a living archive of individuals harmed by crimes against humanity throughout the pandemic. If you have a story you would like to share, please submit it here. You can browse more documented cases of humanity betrayal below.
