Couldn’t go in paramedic unit with Chuck (Hurricane). Lori and I followed and went to ER – I was initially refused entry because I could not wear a mask (for medical reasons). Nice nurse helped me get into his ER room without a mask after 15-30 minute wait outside. Paramedic said his o2 saturation was 65 on way to ER .
When I got there the o2 was 98, was on a 50 psi nose piece, bp looked normal, he seemed alert but not feeling well, kidney function was not good but that had fully recovered by the next day.
Said he tested positive for cov19, unable to tell if he was tested for bacterial pneumonia. Lori said she did ask and they said “Yes” but she is not too sure about that at this time. (Can we tell from medical records?)
Dr Ferguson – ER doctor; one ER nurse (masked) rudely asked if we were vaxxed and said we got the last bed in ICU and we were lucky.
Told they used Remdesivir for treatment – we all said NO, including Chuck. Ferguson said that is the only protocol in the region. Las Vegas and SLC had the same protocols. Asked for alternate treatment and he said there was none, gave us 10 minutes to discuss what we wanted to do.
Rude nurse said I should say my goodbyes. I could not go to ICU with him as I could not wear a mask. Lori went with him. I was afraid to approach him because the nice nurse was gone and the mean nurse was there. I went into shock. She rolled her eyes when I did not get out of my chair to talk to Chuck before he was wheeled away.
Left ER around 11pm. Ferguson called around 3am to say Chuck was having trouble breathing and he agreed to Remdesivir/Ventilator. I said ok.
Asked for Ivermectin/HCQ instead. Ferguson refused. I asked if Utah was restricting his use of alternatives and he said No. But he would not consider as he did not know of any research that said it helped.
At that time India, Japan and the Philippines were using it to treat their patients with great success. Dr Zelenko as well. Ferguson was on rotation from an outside source. They did agree to the Zelenko protocols but withheld the zinc, had to re-request. Dietician had to approve use. Said it would upset his stomach and could throw up into ventilator (which is a lie, it’s not possible to do that). We were told Sunday it was approved.
Got text from Utah Health Department on my phone that I was exposed to COV19 and I was to isolate for 12 days, get tested, not come to hospital unless very ill, etc (9/3). Only 1 person per day allowed to visit, I was restricted to Ipad visit. His four kids arrived from Kansas and saw him from 6-11th.
My first visit was the 12th ONLY because Lori pressed them to let me in by using the paper hood. They never offered that to me or even suggested it in light of me not being able to wear a mask. It was very difficult to wear that and greatly reduced the time I could be with my husband.
Walked the corridor when I was able to get to ICU and Chuck was the ONLY patient in that whole section of either 5 or six beds (last available bed they said). Sign in desk at Patient Tower entrance. It had full-sized cut-out of two nurses flanked by two police in uniform basically saying they would not tolerate any bad behavior……..whatever that may be, I guess they determine that. It was intimidating.
Ferguson ended use of Remdesivir after the first two days, said it wasn’t doing anything for him. Dr Taub came into rotation. I asked for Ivermectin. He was very upset about my request, I asked why he was so agitated by my request. He then blamed Chuck and me for potentially causing other people’s deaths because we were not vaxxed. I asked him how he could even say something like that. He called me a conspiracy theorist for even asking for Ivermectin. Same line of bs about how it had never been tested in trials for use …….but wanted me to get vaxxed with something that wasn’t either.
Claimed he was a Republican. I said he didn’t sound like one. I lost all hope for my husband surviving at this point. Our phone call was contentious at best. I ended it my yelling at him and telling him I would NEVER get the shot. He said something like they used to strap people down in the past and force vax them. (I don’t know if that was true.) I’m sure he’d like to do that to people.
I reported the above episode to the hospital’s patient advocate. She was horrified by what he said. She assured me they would keep him out of rotation on Chuck. Another lie, he was the attending physician the entire time except one day, Dr Moon was on that day. My sister did a report write up, I will get that to you for more detail.
TT Dr Moon, asked for Ivermectin, he refused. Same reason given as the other doctors. In person interaction with Dr Moon, he wouldn’t come out of his office to do update. I had to be in Chuck’s room. fully suited up and they he did it on the Ipad. His office was right next to Chuck’s room.
I was in hallway after exiting Chuck’s room after a long period of time in the papper. ( It was difficult to be in that for very long.) So I had no mask on and at that moment, Dr Moon exited his office, stopped abruptly, put his hands in the air , signaling me to “Stop” with a look of fear in his eyes and they slowly backed into his office and closed the door. It was humiliating and disrespectful. He was wearing a mask. There was no need for any of this behavior from a professional “humanitarian”.
Had to wear gown, gloves, paper head gear each time you entered the room, had to remove everything (except paper) and place it in a garbage bin. The paper was filthy by the way. It was dirty on the outside and showed it was being used a lot without being cleaned.
Taub told me Chuck had a bacterial infection and they started antibiotics. That was the 18th. He died the next day.
Taub instructed the male nurse to tell me he was considering kicking me out of the hospital for the safety of his staff. That was on the18th as well. Why then?? I had been there the whole week except for Wednesday. I needed a day off because I was emotionally unable to go that day from the stress and overwhelming feeling they were not even
helping my husband. I told he nurse there was no reason for this. I had taken Ivermectin at least a week before and was feeling fine. I also said I was well past the infection period. I told him to go ahead and kick me out and I’d write that down and keep a record of the harassment.
My sister and I asked that Chuck be taken off Fentanyl and be given something else. They said they would but I never saw that they did because the feed tube still said Fentanyl on the 18th.
Chuck’s hands were swelling that day. I knew he wasn’t going to make it. He died the next day.
Chuck’s hair was solid, I could not get my fingers into his hair at all. It was so dirty and oily. Never got his clothes back from hospital. I had to request his Bible and cards that were on the cabinet and picked them up at the front desk.
Spilsbury said they would bath the body even though we did not have open casket or embalming. They saw what condition he was in. I thanked them. They knew he wasn’t being cared for properly.
